If you are going to be with a man....???

I am with someone who I was very much into (possibly infatuated), and now I am with, no matter what, because at this point we have two kids together, yet we seem very far apart. We were apart for 3 months, and I think I'd be okay without him, but I think it would be great to stay with him and build a real relationship, but it is very hard to see what he feels and if that is what he wants and such. He is separated from his wife, and was at the time we got together, but I wonder sometimes if he thinks they should still be together, they have a child and were together most of their lives, and I want him to want to be with me and vice versa, but what do I do? Please help and I am so sorry this is so long.
